Temperature
Extensions
- introduction to using a thermometer -- Create the classroom thermometer according to included directions. Explain to the class that the numbers represent degrees of heat and the red ribbon marks the degrees to show the temperature. Show the children how to move the red ribbon up and down to indicate the temperature changes. Explain how a "real" thermometer is read the same way. Allow students time to use thermometers, by reading the temperature in cold water and warm water and heating in between fingers.
- daily temperature readings -- Have a student (added to helper's job assignments) take the inside temperature at the same time each day. Cut a strip of red paper the same length as the liquid in each thermometer. Paste the strips on a chart for a weekly graph of the temperature. Be sure the strips are even at the bottom. Which day was the warmest? Which day was the coolest?
