Electricity UnitForms of Assessment:

Students will be assessed in a variety of ways throughout this unit. Their understanding will be evaluated by their comments, questions, written work, and demonstrations. Although the unit does not evaluate students formally on the terminology used in the text, students will be responsible for knowing enough about the terms to make up their own electricity quiz boards in the culminating activity. Students will also be evaluated individually on their ability to construct several types of circuits including simple, series and parallel. This evaluation will take place at the end of the unit and will provide an informal and non-threatening environment for each student to work one-on-one with a teacher and clear up any misunderstandings that the students may still have. In addition, students will be evaluated on their ability to work cooperatively with others and follow directions.

Finally, the class will revisit the KWL chart that they started at the beginning of the unit and fill in the space titled, "What we Learned." Their experiences with electricity will continue with the next chapter of their book which focuses more on the production and usage of electricity in the community, including information on measuring, using, producing, and conserving energy in the environment.
