Evidence of Learning:

  1. Students will experience how to travel by going through the airport simulation. Students will have the experience of going to the ticket booth, customs, and baggage. At the end of lesson, students will demonstrate they learned how to travel by airplane by telling me the steps they had to take to get onto the plane.
  2. Students will experience international travel in the airport by having to be prepared with their passports. They will have to answer questions at customs and present their passports before traveling to another country. At the conclusion of the lesson students will discuss their experiences. I will be listening for responses that indicate learning such as: "We had to answer why we were going to another country and present our passports".
  3. Students will experience flight simulation by participating in the mock flight. Students will learn about safety on the plane, the procedures during flight (snack, video, landing, etc..). Students will demonstrate that they learned what it is like to fly by telling me the events that occurred during flight.
  4. Students will become aware of Costa Rica through watching the video, listening to my announcements about the weather in Costa Rica, the airport where we are landing, and listening to questions at the end of the lesson. Students will demonstrate that they are aware of Costa Rica by answering what they learned from the video and through my announcements about Costa Rica.
  5. Students will become aware of their Costa Rica study for April through going through their itineraries. As we go over the itineraries students will get an idea of Costa Rica. Teacher will ask questions about the itineraries that have students predict what we will be studying about Costa Rica. Teacher will listen for responses such as "We will be visiting a rain forest, going on bus tours of cities, studying the history, turning the room into a rain forest,etc.."

Reflection:

  1. Did students learn what it is like to fly?
  2. Did students learn what it is like to fly internationally?
  3. Did students gain interest in Costa Rica as their unit study?
  4. Are students excited?
  5. What else do students want to learn about Costa Rica?

Adaptations:

All students will participate in this simulation. I will have it arranged that students who are in special classes at the time will be able to come participate.
