Room #16 Bus Adventures

Objectives:

Materials:

Introductory Set:

  1. Have room ready before students return from gym or music by doing the following:

  2. a. Move desks to sides of room.
    b. Move chairs is 2 rows with 12 chairs in each.
    c. Put up mural paper on sides of the room.
    d. Place construction paper windows on the mural paper.
  3. When students come into the room, have them line up on side to wait to be seated.
  4. Have the ticket taker begin taking tickets and tell them where to sit.
  5. Once everybody has seated do an introduction.

Sequence of Instruction:

  1. Welcome everyone to their bus tour. Introduce them to their tour guides and tell them where they will be visiting. Turn the tour over to the guides.
  2. Allow students as much time as needed to present.
  3. Upon conclusion, welcome students back to Room 16, and tell them to applaud their tour guides.
  4. Ask students to ask questions about the region that were not addressed.

Closure:

  1. Have students open up their handbooks to the "What I Learned About ____" page. They are to fill out three things they learned from the presentation on the particular region. Also, they are to write down any remaining questions and what they liked best about the presentation.
  2. Students will then share what they learned with the tour guides.
  3. Tour guides will turn in their reports to be evaluated.

Evidence of Learning:

  1. Teacher will listen for criteria that was discussed previously to be in the presentation as points of interest in their region. Teacher will look for an introduction, body, and conclusion as discussed in English. Teacher will look for props of some type to be used during the presentation.
  2. Students will write in their books what they learned about a region which the teacher will check over to asses students comprehension of the material. Teacher will listen for student's responses to what they learned as they tell the tour guides things they found interesting or have learned as result of the presentation. Evidence of learning by the tour guides will be assessed by evaluating their reports.

Reflection:

  1. Did students present material clearly and creatively?
  2. Did students enjoy the activity?
  3. Did all members participate in some way?
  4. Were students listening to presentations?
  5. Did students learn something from the presentations?

Adaptations:

Ask lower achieving students orally what they learned by listening to the tour guides.
