The Department of Human & Community Development and
The Department of Special Education
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The infancy program in the Department of Special Education and the Department of Human and Community Development have joined together to offer an additional training option. This program of study is available to HDFS undergraduate students who:
- are majoring in HDFS and following the Child & Adolescent Development concentration
- have a strong interest in working with infants & toddlers with disabilities and their families
Students who are majoring in HDFS/Child & Adolescent Development and who are admitted to this program will complete the following special education coursework and practicum experience as part of their degree program during their senior year:

| SpEd 565 | Development & Characteristics of Young Children with Special Needs (Atypical Development) | Spring |
| SpEd 524 | Supervised Practicum (Infant/Toddler Playgroup) | Spring |
Completion of the program will provide the student with the coursework necessary to apply for the Illinois Early Intervention Developmental Therapist credential. Examples of employment opportunities for HDFS undergraduates holding this credential include:
- early interventionist in a social service agency that serves infants/toddlers with disabilities
- self-employed early intervention service provider
- child care provider or early interventionist in an integrated child care setting
FUNDING: $2,500 stipend will be available for 4 HCD students per year, beginning Summer/Fall 2005 through 2009. These stipends will be awarded on a competitive basis.
