Admission LBS-I Graduate Certification Program
Applicants credentials for admission to the Master's Learning and Behavior Specialist I Certification Program are evaluated on quality of undergraduate and graduate preparation, grade point average, statement of purpose and letters of recommendation. In addition, candidates for admission who are Illinois residents must have passed the Illinois Certification Testing System (ICTS) Test of Basic Skills. The Special Education Department Graduate Admissions Committee will not review an Illinois resident's application file without evidence that the applicant has passed the Test of Basic Skills. If taking the test prior to admission presents a substantial hardship, the candidate should contact the department to discuss possible conditional admission to the program.
Conditional Admission
Candidates who can demonstrate a hardship registering for the ICTS Basic Skills Test which is required for admission to the LBS-1 certification program, may be considered for conditional admission. For purposes of this policy, hardship is defined as being unable to register for the test because of residence outside of Illinois, which would preclude taking the test at a convenient location.
Consideration for a conditional admission to the program will be given to candidates by the admitting program faculty, with the concurrence of the Council on Teacher Education. Either the candidate or the program admission faculty may initiate a request for conditional admission on the designated form. A conditional admission will not be offered until the form is approved by the appropriate admission personnel and the Council.
A conditional admission may be offered only for the FIRST SEMESTER of enrollment. If conditionally admitted, a candidate will be required to pass the test in order to remain in the professional education preparation program beyond the first semester. Written notice of these conditions will be given to each conditionally admitted candidate.
