Teacher Collaborators Join Center
Haeny Yoon and Phillip Wilder recently joined the Center as Teacher Collaborators. Both Haeny and Phillip bring extensive experience to these positions as well as great familiarity with teaching diverse students and working with practitioners.
Haeny Yoon joins the Center after teaching seven years in Unit 4 as both a fourth grade and second grade classroom teacher. During her tenure in Champaign, Haeny led several staff development activities related to literacy including teaching board-credit courses district-wide, mentoring teachers, and modeling lessons for both teachers and administrators. She is particularly interested in children's writing development. As the Elementary Teacher Collaborator, Haeny's portfolio will include working with teachers to further sustainable, comprehensive, and effective literacy instruction in grades K-5.
After ten years of teaching high school students at Joliet West High School and Champaign's Central High School, Phillip Wilder joins the Center as the Secondary Teacher Collaborator. Phillip specializes in content area literacy, meta-cognitive strategies, and multiliteracies. In his role as Teacher Collaborator, Phillip will work with teachers to promote a deepened understanding of secondary literacy learners and effective literacy practices across the content areas.
With the assistance of Haeny and Phillip, the Center looks forward to enhancing local teachers' instructional capacities related to literacy, developing high quality professional development, and strengthening the College's partnership with local schools. On behalf of the entire Center staff, we welcome your suggestions and feedback regarding our collaboration and partnership efforts.
The Center is located in Room 32 of the College and can be reached via phone at 333-4687. We look forward to working with these knowledgeable professionals and ask that you join us in welcoming our colleagues to the College of Education.
