The Academic Job Search Series: The Academic Job Search--
Searching for and landing a faculty job or postdoc is somewhat different from looking for a position in the corporate or not-for-profit sectors. Available positions are posted in specialized periodicals, application materials are usually different and specific to academic disciplines, and the screening and interview process differs from those outside academe. This workshop is designed to provide an overview of the academic job search process in a practical and systematic format. It will discuss the general process of applying for faculty positions, introduce where to look for job postings, and discuss the materials required when applying for academic jobs. It will also explore the critical importance of networking, provide advice on how to organize and prepare, introduce valuable resources, and hopefully reduce the anxiety associated with the job search process. The Graduate College also offers a free online guide to the academic job search on the Graduate College's Career Service web site http://www.grad.uiuc.edu/careerservices/ |
