The Graduate College and University Academic Human Resources will offer an employee orientation for all graduate assistants during the month of September 2008. University representatives will provide information to new graduate employees about appointment terms, benefits, and resources. Members of the Graduate Employees Organization (GEO/IFT/AFT/AFL-CIO) will also be present to provide information about GEO representation. The GEO is officially recognized as the exclusive bargaining unit for all graduate assistants (GAs) and most teaching assistants (TAs). New graduate assistants are encouraged to attend. The orientation is not mandatory, but is strongly recommended. Students who have already held assistantships at the University are also welcome. The orientation will be repeated at various times over the course of two weeks. |
