William Chandler Bagley Master's Scholarship
The College of Education designates outstanding master’s candidates as Bagley Scholars. These awards are funded from gifts of alumni and friends of the College of Education and named after William Chandler Bagley, an early Director of the former School of Education, who is known for his insistence that both formal training and experience were needed to promote good educational practice. Master’s scholars will receive a taxable award of $1,500 payable in two installments (1/2 fall;1/2 spring) which will be applied to their student account.
Applicant deadline
Friday, February 13, 2009
Applications and supporting material must be e-mailed directly to applicant’s departmental contact. Late applications and supporting material will not be accepted.
Conditions of the award
Applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Maintain full-time student status (minimum of 12 hours per fall 2009 and spring 2010 semesters).
- Maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5.
- Attend the College of Education Student Recognition Brunch.
Applicant procedures
To be considered for this award, applicants must submit via e-mail the application and supporting material directly to their departmental contact by the applicant deadline:
- Graduate student award application.
- Provide a copy of UIUC academic history and GPA from SIS [Student Information System] (provided by department).
- Submit a 2-3 page current curriculum vita, including research and/or teaching experiences, service awards and honors.
- Submit a 1-2 page current personal statement.
- Provide two current letters of recommendation from College of Education faculty. Faculty must e-mail recommendation letter directly to applicant’s departmental contact.
Departmental Procedures

- Determine one applicant to nominate.
- Review application material for completeness.
- Prepare an electronic copy of the applicant’s UIUC academic history and current GPA from SIS [Student Information System-Course Hist and GPA Hist].
- Save all materials into one PDF file using the following naming convention:
applicant’s netid_bagleymast_2009-10 - Place PDF file in the appropriate department folder located at
\\ed-nts\projects\GSAAT\department name\ by Friday, February 27, 2008.
Late nominations and supporting material will not be accepted.
