Admission Requirements

These are minimum standards for consideration for admission to the program:

1. Earned Bachelor Degree in a science, mathematics (or mathematics-related field), or engineering field from an accredited college or university.

2. A Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better on a 4-point scale for the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate studies.

3. Acceptable GRE (general) scores.

4. Substantial college level coursework in the discipline for which the candidate is seeking certification (a minimum of 24 credit hours).

5. Successful completion of the Illinois Certification Testing System test of Basic Skills and the appropriate Content Area test prior to admission. For more information about these tests, including deadlines and registration, please visit the Illinois Certification Testing System.

6. Three letters of recommendation.

7. A written narrative statement (which is part of the Supplemental Application for Graduate Admission to Teacher Education Programs)--to be prepared by the applicant, detailing goals in education and demonstrating interest in the education of, and/or prior experiences working with, youth.
