Best Practices
YLP Assistant Teachers are requested to provide a best practice in classroom management in lieu of a journal during the week February 17-21.
Procedure:
First, reflect upon the classroom management practices of all the teachers
whom you have assisted.
Second, select one practice or a highly interrelated short series of practices from among the best practices that you can recall.
Third, describe what you remember. One page maximum, typed. It may be submitted via email.
Fourth, provide a copy to the Cooperating Teacher whose practice you described. The Cooperating Teacher must be allowed to edit and must sign.
Fifth, inform the Coop that we may link the Best Practices on our YLP home page, and that both the names will be listed--the YLP Assistant as identifier and writer; the Teacher as Model of the Best Practice and editor of the written description.
Sixth, if the Cooperating Teacher signs the description, she is allowing us to put it on the WWW. The YLP Assistant Teacher is to make this clear to the Cooperating Teacher. However, the Cooperating Teacher may decline to have the Best Practice placed on the WWW. Just a note next to the signature is okay.
Seventh, the YLP Assistant Teacher may turn in a Best Practice without a Cooperating Teacher's signature, but she/he will be asked to obtain the signature or a statement that the Cooperating Teacher would prefer that the Best Practice not be placed on the WWW. One extra week will be allowed. Obviously, I do not expect many YLP Assistant Teachers to select this option.
