- The CIO Help Desk and Equipment Checkout have resumed full
operation in Room 25 Education as of Wednesday, August 23, 2006
and are open from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm on Mondays through
Thursdays, and 7:30 am to 5 pm on Fridays. As with
each new academic year, all patrons will be required to register
with CIO and sign the Campus agreement for equipment loan a
one-time procedure that will require you to show us your Campus
iCard. Policies and procedures have essentially remained the
same from previous academic years.
- The College of Education media-ready classrooms have also
been upgraded for the start of the Fall semester. The College
of Education has replaced the out of date classroom computers
in Room 22, 42A, 176, and 192 with one Mac Mini computer that
provides both Mac OS X and Windows XP. Instructors should notice
no difference in the software available on the computers, and
should expect improved performance from the new computers. In
addition to those changes, Campus and the College have worked
together to put classroom technology into Rooms 4F, 4G, 140A,
and 166. With the finish of these rooms, all College classrooms
will be considered media-ready.
- The Instructional Computing Lab has experienced some changes
as well. Out-of-date Windows machines were replaced in Room
16 Education with new iMac computers. As with the classroom
computers, these new iMacs provide both Mac OS X and Windows
XP operating systems. This adds flexibility for the ways in
which our computing labs can be utilized. The ICL hours for
Fall 2006 are 8 am to 8 pm on Mondays through Thursdays
and 8 am to 5 pm on Fridays.
- The Center for Technologies in Teaching and Learning continues
to provide educational technology and new media integration
support to faculty, staff, and students. Please stop by Room
28 Education between 8 am and 5 pm for help with digital
media projects, electronic portfolios and more.
- CIO has collaborated with the Office of Budget and Resource
Planning to upgrade computers for faculty who had desktop computers
five years old or older. Computer replacement is currently underway.
- CIO was invited to several student orientation events where
we shared information about what services CIO may provide COE
students. New students, faculty, and staff are welcome to come
down to CIO (Rm 32) and receive a tour and gain more information
about what CIO can provide (this is, of course, always open
to returning faculty, staff and students!).
- Enhancements were made to the college's IT services which
provide faculty, staff, and students with greater reliability
and less vulnerability in network services. These enhancements
include upgrading the college's web servers (Spring '06),
upgrading the college's Moodle server, upgrading the college's
SQL Server, researching improving storage and backup options,
and spearheading efforts to make the college's web presence
universally accessible.
- CIO is coordinating efforts with campus to upgrade the college
IT infrastructure. Campus has scheduled the college for a wireless
upgrade this Fall. In conjunction with other equipment upgrades
supported by campus, the upgrade will allow the college faster
network connections and other options such as multicasting for
videoconferencing.
- Network upgrades were completed in December for CRC. Colonel
Wolfe is scheduled for upgrades, although no exact timeline
has been set. These upgrades are part of the campus effort to
improve building connectivity. The COE previously upgraded.
