WHAT IS HAPPENING AND WHEN?
--------------------------------------------
The Education Building's wired network will become temporarily
unavailable at approximately 9pm Sunday night, August 22, 2004
for a security upgrade. After the upgrade, all computers
in the Education Building will have to register before they will
be able to access the network.
WHO IS AFFECTED?
---------------------------------
All users with computers connecting to the Education Building
network with a network cable. Wireless users are
not affected.
WHAT DO I DO?
---------------------------------
When you first sit down to your computer on or after August 23,
all you need to do is register your computer. To register
your computer simply log on to your computer, open a web browser
and follow the instructions. You will need to know your
Active Directory account.
A more complete set of instructions is available here:
http://www.ed.uiuc.edu/cio/network/registration.html
WHO SHOULD REGISTER THE COMPUTERS?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone with a netID can register a computer, but because the netID
of the person registering will be associated with that computer
in our database indefinitely, we ask that the primary user register
the computer. If the computer is shared among many, then
we suggest that either the group's supervisor or the staff with
inventory responsibility for the computers register the computers.
