Summer time jobs may include fishing, assisting in family businesses, bed and breakfast, hiking, camping and all activities found in lower 48 states.

Additional to traditional celebrations some communities hold 4th of July fireworks until a darker time of the year and summer solstice (midnight sun) activities find the community enjoying picnics and races through midnight. In the winter, most weekends sled dog races are held and of course the 1000 mile sled dog race from Fairbanks to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory is in February. The Alaska Native population also has special festival including the Native Olympics where traditional Native games and contests are played.
