The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) in the U.S. Department of Education has released its Condition of Education 2003 report.

Mandated by Congress, the report presents indicators of developments and trends in American education each year. The report covers areas such as participation and persistence in education, student performance and other outcomes, the environment for learning and societal support for education.

The report is based on data collected before April of 2003.
