One of the most frightening statistics in Illinois P-12 education currently is the number of beginning teachers that leave the profession. Roughly 50% of new teachers leave within five years of graduation -- and given the already overwhelming shortage of teachers to begin with, this is not a reassuring number.

The College of Education Novice Teacher Support Program is a project developed to provide professional mentoring to new teachers in an effort to give them the resources to keep them in the field longer.

It was recently the topic of an article in Education Week, the national newspaper of the higher education profession.
