Reading Group with the University of Bristol
There is a reading group forming on our UIUC campus in conjunction with an existing reading group at the University of Bristol, UK that will focus on some of the Neil Brenner's work to broadly examine questions of globalization and the role of the state, as well as issues of spatial policy. In an ongoing discussion with the Bristol reading group, we will start with the text: State/Space: A Reader by Neil Brenner, Bob Jessop, Martin Jones and Gordon Macleod. The reading group at UIUC will parallel the group in Bristol in readings and we will set up a virtual site to facilitate discussion across the two groups. In addition, Professor Brenner is planning to visit the University of Bristol in January, so we can plan to participate in some sort of virtual discussion with him at that time.
If you are interested in joining the reading group or for more information, please contact Laura Engel at lcengel@uiuc.edu
Note: A set meeting time for the reading group has yet to be decided, but times have been narrowed down to Monday, Wednesday, or Friday afternoons. The first group meeting will be in about 2 weeks.
Readings: Copies of the readings will be placed in the mailbox of L.Engel, 3rd floor of the Education building in Educational Policy Studies department so that people can take them out and make individual copies of the readings. Please limit the time you take out the readings so that others can access them.
