Description This presentation charts the decline of U.S. science against the rise of other nations, especially China. It provides an analytical description of the rise of global science and discusses the development of the 'science economy' based on new models of openness. Michael A. Peters is professor of education in Educational Policy Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and adjunct professor in the School of Art at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He is also the author over fifty books, including most recently: Creativity and the Global Knowledge Economy, (with Peter Murphy and Simon Marginson) (forthcoming); Knowledge Economy, Development and the Future of Higher Education (2007); Global Knowledge Cultures (ed.) (with Cushla Kapitzke); and Building Knowledge Cultures (with Tina Besley) (2006).
