A Series of One Day Skill-Building Workshops for Employment Specialist Professionals - Descriptions of some of these workshops are provided below.

Targeted Audience: Job Developers, Job Coaches, Employment Specialists, Case Managers, Support Staff, Vocational Rehab Counselors, Teachers, Vocational Coordinators, Transition Specialists, Peer Helpers, Vocational Evaluators, Guidance Counselors, Employers, Staff Trainers, Family Members.

Workshop Information

  • Building the Framework: Job Analysis and Matching

    Description: Job matching is recognized as an essential component in supported employment. Making an appropriate job match is critical to building a successful employee/employer relationship. This workshop will focus on understanding the person, understanding the job, and then using this information to make a successful match. Topics covered will include: purpose of analysis and matching, process of analysis and matching, instruments to use for analysis and matching, and support plans based on analysis and matching.

  • Putting up the Sign: Basic Marketing

  • Description: Benefits and outcomes from this workshop for participants are many. Front-line staff will learn the basics of marketing, how to actively participate in marketing, and how to talk with customers in a way that adds value and enhances an agency’s image. CRP managers will learn how to involve staff and customers in marketing efforts, how to teach staff to communicate information about the services, how to communicate with customers, and how to use cost-benefit practices to strengthen marketing efforts. Participants will come away with new skills they can put into practice immediately.

  • General Contracting: Communication and Conflict Management

    Description: Participants who complete this workshop will learn about and practice behaviors and skills that will enable them to: 1) communicate more effectively verbally, non-verbally, in writing, using e-mail, and on the telephone; 2) give and receive feedback; 3) manage conflict; and 4) address cultural and disability aspects of communication. The workshop content is fast-paced and fun. It includes content and examples that are appropriate both for direct service staff and management staff of human service and corporate settings.

  • Using the Right Tools: Using Assistive Technology

Description: Identify resources, low tech and high tech, assessing need.

  • Blueprint for Success: Systematic Instruction

Description: Systematic Instruction, helping people learn, fading by transferring support.

  • Laying the Foundation: Developing Employee Supports

Description: Natural Supports, Positive Behavior Supports, Environmental Supports.

  • Designing a Career Program: Planning with a Purpose

Description: person-centered planning and self determination, making the most of your time, and building relationships.

  • New Construction: Working with Young Adults

    Description: Transition, career development, and collaboration

  • Building Your Neighborhood: Developing Community Partnerships

Description: Identify resources, collaboration, and expanding your network.
