Degree Requirements
Master of Education (Ed.M.) or Master of Science (M.S.) with a concentration in Human Resource Development
These master's degrees in Human Resource Education are designed to meet the academic and professional interests of individuals preparing for careers as adult educators, researchers, and practitioners in human resource education. Students are prepared for positions such as trainers, instructional designers, instructional technologists, organizational development specialists, or learning organization consultants. The degree is earned through completing 36 hours of course work beyond the baccalaureate degree. At least twelve hours of course work must be at the 500 level.
Master of Education/Master of Business Administration (Ed.M./M.B.A.)
The Joint MBA/HRE Program is completed over a 2.5 year period of full-time study. The two degrees (MBA and Ed.M.) are awarded based on 92 hours (60 MBA/32 HRE) of earned credit.
The joint MBA/Ed.M. program of study consists of three phases:
- completion of the MBA core course requirements during the first year,
- completion of the MBA cap stone courses and 4 units compromising an MBA professional track,
- completion of Ed.M. courses in human resource development during the second year.

All students admitted to a Masters degree program must fulfill the following minimum requirements:
Core Course Requirements – 20 hours

Students are also encouraged to enroll in one or more internship experiences (HRE 492), although the internship credit does not count toward the 36-hour course minimum requirement.

* M.S., M.A. Candidates
A Master's thesis must be completed and defended as part of the M.S. program. A minimum of 2 hours thesis credit is required (counts as part of elective requirements).
** Ed.M./M.B.A. Candidates
Students participating in the Ed.M./M.B.A. program need to choose only 4 hours of electives, rather than 8 hours.
