Always Illinois: A New Way to Stay Connected

The university that gave you the web browser has just launched an exciting new way to share experiences with other Illinois friends and family - Always Illinois. This free, online networking site offers students, faculty, staff and alumni of Illinois a whole virtual world of opportunities to correspond, share images and movies and to interact in a community environment.

Reconnect with classmates, find out about campus events, meet up with a new generation of Illinois alums. After you've registered (free and one-time), you'll see Illinois in a whole new way. What is Always Illinois?

• Always Illinois is a free, traditional social networking service which maintains a professional environment where students, alumni, faculty, and staff can interact.  This free service is provided by the Chancellor’s Office.
• Although the social networking component is similar to Facebook and Myspace, Always Illinois integrates additional layers of security and user privacy, and provides a job recruitment tool along with opportunities for mentorship.
• Always Illinois is open to students, staff, faculty and alumni. Alumni use a personal security code for one-time registration purposes.  These features provide a secure and safe environment for our users.
• All users must agree to the Terms of Use set forth by the University of Illinois before registering on the site, as well as the Terms of Use set forth by the service provider.  Affinity Circles, Inc.
• As with all social networking communities, all users share the responsibility of maintaining the integrity of the professional environment.  Every page includes a “feedback” link for reporting inappropriate activity.

What are the potential benefits of being involved with Always Illinois?

• Always Illinois allows the College of Education to remain closely connected with alumni while offering ways in which alumni and students can connect through a mentoring type relationship.
• The online community can serve as a communication tool in which each department/unit can provide helpful information for current students in a professional environment.  Alumni and students can also share news, post announcements and ask questions.
• Always Illinois includes a forum for career networking where alumni and students can search and post jobs by specific interests.  Alumni will be encouraged to post job announcements and internship opportunities.  Users can also post a resume on their profile page.

How much training and maintenance will be provided?

• One of the many benefits of Always Illinois is that login and password information will not expire when students graduate, so student profiles will carry-over to alumni profiles seamlessly.  The only user maintenance required will be to update personal profile information when applicable.
