While a student at Illinois...

E-Mail Redirect Policy

Please be advised that all e-mail communications (this includes information from departments, instructors, Office of Accounts Receivable, Office of Admissions and Records, Academic Outreach staff, etc.) to University of Illinois students will be sent to the student's NetID@illinois.edu e-mail address as specified in the University's Electronic Directory, found at www.uiuc.edu/ricker/PH . You must redirect your Illinois email address to your personal email address if you do not wish to use your Illinois email address. For most students, this address is set to your CITES express e-mail account. If you wish to redirect your NetID@illinois.edu e-mail address elsewhere, you may edit your Electronic Directory entry at http://ede.cites.uiuc.edu . You must know your NetID and NetID password to do this. If you do not know your NetID password, you must contact CITES account services at (217) 333-6760 to have it reset.

Leaving Illinois...

Forwarding Email

Once you've established another email account, you may begin forwarding your Illinois email to your new account by using the Illinois Electronic Directory forwarding service, which will work for one year after your account is discontinued. The Electronic Directory forwarding service will forward any email sent to your NetID-based address, written as NetID@illinois.edu. You should always use NetID@illinois.edu as your return address, as email sent to NetID@express.cites.illinois.edu will not be forwarded and will be rejected after your email account is discontinued. (Note that the only way to redirect your NetID@illinois.edu email is through the Illinois Electronic Directory forwarding service. If you use CITES Express Email forwarding to redirect your email, it will no longer function once your account is deactivated.)

To set up email forwarding via the Electronic Directory:

  1. Go to the Electronic Directory Editor at http://ede.cites.uiuc.edu
  2. Click on the link entitled Click Here To Edit Entries.
  3. Enter your NetID and NetID password when prompted.
  4. If you have more than one entry, you will be presented with a list of entries that you can edit. From that list, select your NetID entry. If you have only one entry, proceed to step 5.
  5. Find the field entitled email and enter your new email address, complete with the @ sign (e.g., my_new_name@gmail.com).
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Log out as instructed.

It may take up to two hours for this change to become effective. Once effective, all email sent to NetID@Illinois.edu will be forwarded to the new destination.
