    Application Fee:

    Domestic Applicants (Applying to: Summer 2007, Fall 2007, Spring 2008, or Summer 2008) pay $50.
    Domestic Applicants (Applying to: Fall 2008 or later) pay $60.
    International Applicants (Applying to: Summer 2007, Fall 2007, Spring 2008, Summer 2008) pay $60.
    International Applicants (Applying to: Fall 2008 or later) pay $75.

Paying electronically with a credit card means your application is available immediately to the EOL department. Hence, processing is faster when paying electronically.

You may also mail your check or money order (drawn on a US bank) with the completed fee coupon to:

  • Complete the following supporting application materials:
    • ED ADMIN ONLY Departmental Personal Information Form (doc) - Please complete through online application.

    • HIGHER ED ONLY Personal Statement (doc)- Do NOT submit a Departmental Personal Information Form.

    • Current Professional Resume

    • 3 Letters of Reference (pdf) - From persons who have direct knowledge of your academic and/or professional performance and potential for graduate study. If the recommenders complete this online, no additional copy is necessary.

    • Transcripts - Both graduate and undergraduate - transcripts from only the universities where you have received a degree. Please send them directly to the Department of EOL (333 Education Building, 1310 S. 6th St. MC708, Champaign, IL 61820). The UIUC Graduate College has established a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (A=4) for admission. Important: Even if you have course work from the University of Illinois, you still need to order your transcript. Contact the Office of Admissions and Records for more info.

    • GRE Scores (Ph.D. applicants) - Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test Scores (Verbal and Quantitative) taken within four years of date of requested admission. (ETS code Institution: 1836, program: 00)

    • Applicants to doctoral degree programs are required to complete a writing sample. The writing sample is conducted on the Urbana-Champaign campus. Applicants will be contacted by the department to arrange a convenient time to complete the writing sample. Also can be proctored by the applicant's supervisor at his or her work site if the applicant is a considerable distance away.

    • Applicants to doctoral degree programs are required to have personal interviews with two faculty members. The interviews are conducted on the Urbana-Champaign campus. Applicants will be contacted by the department to arrange a convenient time to complete the interviews. For applicants who are a distance away from the UIUC campus, a telephone conference call may be an appropriate alternative to the on-campus interview.

  • Applicants seeking admission to the Certificate of Advanced Studies program combined with the Superintendent Endorsement must complete the same admissions process as for the doctoral degree programs.

For International Students of All Degrees (Ed.M., M.S., CAS, Ed.D., & Ph.D.)

Complete all of the steps in the checklist for the particular degree being sought.
