Menu

Many authors will never need their menus edited or they will have their content buddy or OET edit them. This is because:
- their menus don't change;
- someone else in the unit is editing them;
- editing menus is too complex;
- their menus change too infrequently to bother learning to edit them
Which Menu Does a Page Use?
The menu used for a given page is the first menu file (menu.html) found above that page. For example consider the following folders:
- /oet
- /oet/web
- /oet/web/publishing
The url http://www.ed.uiuc.edu/oet/web/publishing/ will use the menu found in /oet/menu.html because there are no menu files in the folders /oet/web or /oet/web/publishing
Creating A New Menu
To create a new menu, use the create new page and use the menu template. Be sure to name the filename menu.html.
How Do I Edit the Menu?
- Determine which menu file you are editing and type the URL of that menu in the Contribute address bar in browsing mode (if you are currently editing a page hit the save for later icon).
You will see the menu file appear as a list of lists as below. Hit the Edit Page button to start editing the menu..
- The menu template will now appear in the form below. This is the editing mode and the directions are at the top of the page. The menu template is a little tricky, but you'll get the hang of it.

- Hit the publish button and go to a web page that uses the menu to see the menu.
