Contribute 3 Upgrade and New Keys

 

As of November 2004, all College of Education users should have upgraded to version 3 of Contribute.  This has allowed us to implement new features of EdWebs only available via Contribute 3.  It has also made support easier as we are all using the same version.

New keys need to be used with Contribute 3 (11/3/2004 Email)

We have made new Contribute Keys for the College of Education site.  The new keys remove the “draft.ed.uiuc.edu” path and replace it with “www.ed.uiuc.edu” making the URLs less confusing.  The new keys also make the site easier for us to administer.  Your current key should be deleted if you have it on your local computer.

 

To get a new key:

1. Make sure you have upgraded to Contribute 3.  If you have any questions, contact John Barclay and I will get you upgraded.
2. Remove any Contribute web site connections you have.  Do this by selecting “My Connections” from the “Edit” pull down meni in Contribute.  Delete the connection that has “http://draft.ed....” in it by selecting it and hitting the remove  button.
3. Find the keys folder. 
   Windows Users:  in the start > run menu type \\www.ed.uiuc.edu\edwebs\keys
   Mac Users:  connect to the edwebs volume on www.ed.uiuc.edu.  Hit Apple-K to get to connect server box.  Type smb://www.ed.uiuc.edu/edwebs in the box and hit connect.
4. Find your key.  It should be in your unit’s folder.  Mac keys end in “Mac”, windows keys end in “Win”
5. Double click on the key.  If Contribute asks if you would like to replace your current connection, say “Yes”. 
6. The  password is edwebs if it asks you for one.

To test that all has gone well, edit and publish a page.
