Financial Aid Overview

We are committed to finding financial support for our students and our department's record to date is excellent. Over 90% of the students in the department last year were funded, and most students obtain funding throughout the course of their graduate studies. Students are helped to find financial assistance through the services of the office of the Associate Chair. In the spring semester each year, current and prospective students all receive more detailed information regarding available assistantships and fellowships.

The most common types of financial aid consist of research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and fellowships. As long as the appointment is at least 25% time, these types of aid provide full waivers of tuition and service fees. They also provide a salary, which varies in amount depending on whether on not a student has completed a master's degree.

If you wish to apply for financial aid or employment, indicate your interest on the Application for Admission to the Graduate College. All types of financial aid or employment from the University of Illinois require three letters of recommendation, an up-to-date graduate appointment application (or Application for Admission to the Graduate College for new students), and transcripts of all college work. Letters of recommendation in your application file may be used for financial aid or employment as long as they are no more than one year old. If you are a continuing student, you must have at least two letters of recommendation from University of Illinois faculty members.

The Web site for the Office of Financial Aid also provides additional information, including answers to common questions and downloadable application forms. In addition, you can check out the latest fellowship opportunities within Educational Psychology or fellowship opportunities on campus .
