EPS 202 MULTI-STAGED TERM PAPER (25%)

EPS 202 STUDENTS

EPS 202 MULTI-STAGED TERM PAPER (25%) General Guidelines. 12-15 pages research paper with a minimum of 5 academic resources (this does not include popular magazines, newspaper articles, and special interest websites).    Instructions for the term paper will be distributed in discussion section.

EPS 202 discussion sections will require a multi-staged term paper as a means for students to further develop their writing skills. Students will write a multi-staged term paper that critically analyzes a topic connected to one of the course's major themes.  A topics list will be provided.  There are many topics that connect to the study of social foundations of education and you are encouraged to pick a topic the really interests you.

The purpose of this paper is to deepen students' understanding and appreciation of the ways in which contemporary educational practices connect to the historical origins and the ideological forces influencing the American public school.

Students will draw from some of the assigned course readings in Unit I and Unit II, in order to provide a historical context for their selected topic (Unit I: 1750-1850, Unit II: 1850-1980).

The final term paper should assess the educational significance of this topic over time.  All topics must be approached from a social foundations perspective

Students should compare and contrast changes in the definitions of terms, examine the educational significance of the topic, and analyze several of the major social and ideological forces that shaped this topic.

On the term paper, students are graded on their ability to write a well-ordered, essay that clearly states a position, provides evidence and reasoned argument, and demonstrates progress in achieving college-level writing skills.
