Project: Backpacking Beanie Babies
Grade Levels: Kindergarten - Second grade
Register by: March 28, 1997
Project Target Date: April 8, 1997
Project Description: Help the beanie baby travel around to different elementary
buildings in the world. You will need to use email and the U.S. mail to
participate in this project. You will be responsible for mailing the beanie baby
on to another school and paying for the cost of that. You will also be
responsible for plotting on a map where your school is located. A map will travel
with a journal to each participating school.
Content Areas: The project is to enhance reading, writing, and global studies.
The students will gain the experience of learning how to use email to communicate
across the world.
The best thing about this project is the minimal effort required to participate
in it. You will be required to email information about your school, grade, and
the state in which you live in. You will also complete a journal entry and
pinpoint your location on the map. A camera will be enclosed for you to take a
picture of your class with the beanie baby. You will also need to mail the
beanie baby and camera on to the next school.
How To Register: Respond via email to vose@springfield.k12.il.us The first
ten schools will be accepted, due to the variuos times in which schools end for
summer break a limit has been placed on the number of participants.
Specific details will follow once the project is filled. A schedule will be
established for the beanie baby's trip abroad.
