Subject: project proposal
Hello:
Please take a minute to look this over and let me know what you
think I can do to improve my proposal. I would appreciate your
posting the reply to the class as I am about ready to get started
and would like to post this to the world at large.
Thanks.

"From Congress to the President"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This project is designed to provide an opportunity for teachers /
participants to engage themselves in one or more activities aimed
at enhancing:
- Use of multiple web-based technologies
- Knowledge of current events
- Understanding of the legislative process
: Key participants (Speaker, lobbyists, Chairpersons and their role
in the process
: Role of the Committee / Sub-committee
: Appreciation of the "compromise and consensus" function
: Apprecaition for some of the more fundamental constitutional principles
such as majority rule and protection of minority interests
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How the project works:
American government classes at Lake Land College, Mattoon, IL
will role-play a simulation of the US Congress' deliberations on
various bills introduced. Participants on the world wide web
have the opportunity to serve as legislative staff, interested
consitutents, or interest group members.
Participants will research topics / questions which they select
and find interesting. This can be done individually or as part
of a class exercise. They then submit that information either by
e-mail to the appropriate party, by posting to a bulletin board,
or by web-based mail-to script. It is encouraged that
particiapnts will make known their beliefs, the results of their
research, and interesting / informative URL addresses which are
found on the web.
Comments will be posted on the bulletin board or linked by a web
page to be developed and pasted soon. A reference link section
will be created consisting of the URL sent in by the participants
as a future source for research. This web page will be left
intact after the exercise completes for future reference.
The home page will note the legislation introduced and will track
its progress in our mock exercise.
Participants can be as involved as their time will permit. The
project is open to any age student.
More details will follow to those interested in being a
comtributing participant. To those who are interested, the URL
address of the web page will be returned in an e-mail message.
To wrap up the project, participants will be able to take an
on-line exam and test their knowledge of the legislative process,
the role of the key players in the process, the current events.
Comments, criticisms, suggestions are welcomed.
