The best thing about this project: The best thing about the project is keeping up with Linda Finch's flight around the world as she follows Amelia Earharts 1937 flight plan. Having the project so much in the media also makes it more enjoyable for students. We like getting the pilot's log of where she is each day and being able to email her and getting information on the plane itself. There are great learning activities about flight, the countries visited, Amelia's life and there is a fun trivia quiz at the end. We are planning a World Flight party at the end of her flight late in May. Fourth and fifth graders love this project.
The worst thing about this project: There is no down side to this project. Unlike so many good programs, there is no cost to be involved in this.
What I would change to improve this project (and why): I can't think of any way to improve this project unless we could all go along in the plane. The website is always up and we have no trouble getting connected, the email responses are instant, and the mailing list that you subscribe to gets you daily updates of the flight.
