This is a detailed program of the new California Reading Initiative where resources and lesson plans are given for procedures in teaching phonics grades K through Third. There are several categories such as lesson plans, for instruction in phonemic awareness,and/or resources for parents. There are listings of stories and other phonic related materials. There is also an area entitiled "Bubble and Beyond" which deals with more references if a person is interested in doing some of their own investigating. I liked the area which gave specific lesson plans that I could adapt and use in my particular kindergarten room. I realize that each state deals differently with the teaching of reading guidelines, but I think the materal presented here is adaptable in every classroom.
