I am working this challenge project with Dr. Cynthia Ching who is a professor in Education Psychology department at University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. This project focus on children and computers. I am not trying to focus on computer's positive and negative effects on young children. I am trying to show what I have seen in the k-1 class at University Primary School (UPS) at University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign. Do boys more interested on playing computer than girls? Do computers isolate children's interaction with peers? Can very young children (k-1 grade) mentor one another in using computer? I worked with a class at UPS to find answers to these questions. For this project, I did observation and took fieldnotes once a week from March to May 2003.
I did observation in k-1 grade class at University of
Primary School (UPS) once a week. There were 25 students in the class.
I usually went there on Thursday at 1:40PM-2:30PM which was a free choice
time for children. These are the fieldnotes I have took during my observations.
