The purpose of this grant is to increase the number of students with disabilities who enter into and successfully complete postsecondary education via the development, implementation, and evaluation of a model program.
Using a change model borrowed from Fullan (1993) that emphasizes the importance of empowering change agents, supporting them and enhancing networking between them, this project will directly: Support five students the first year and ten students each subsequent year of the grant to enter into and successfully complete postecondary training.
Desired outcomes include: clear understanding of barriers, more choices, autonomy, employment, awareness of opportunities,competent postsecondary instructors in accommodations, training packages. Key features include: promoting self-determination, providing training and support. Model is constituency-driven via focus-group activities. Collaborative effort - Colorado State University, School of Education's Occupation Special Needs and Community College Administration graduate programs and the Industrial Technology Department, a community college, related secondary schools and a regional rehabilitation continuing education program.
