Classroom Access through Technology
Project Abstract
TI# 412
The overall goal of the Classroom Access Through
Technology project is to design and implement a model
program that creates a university-wide environment
where faculty take a proactive approach to creating
accessible curriculum and classroom environments for
students with disabilities through the use of
technology. The objectives of the project are:
-
Foster collaborative partnerships between students
with disabilities and faculty that resolve
accommodation challenges through the production of
accessible materials or accommodation of classroom
tasks using technology,
- Engage faculty in the
development of academically appropriate adaptive
curricululm in courses that present particularly
difficult challenges for students with disabilities:
mathematics, biological sciences, and foreign
language,
- Create a faculty-peer technical support
network for incorporating access by developing "faculty
accommodation specialists" in targeted departments.
These faculty will receive advanced training in using
technology to provide accessible materials and
curricula which will enable them to serve as
departmental resources for academic accommodations,
- Document this model for dissemination to other
postsecondary institutions.
