Connecting to the College of Education Servers from a Macintosh OS X Machine
Note: If you experience issues connecting to the servers (especially from off campus), please try installing the CITES VPN Service. For more information, please visit our Clients Outside Of Campus page.
In Mac OS X, the Chooser has been integrated into the Finder. To connect to a file server, choose Connect to Server from the Go menu. From there, type in the IP address or hostname of the file server, or, if you're on the local Education Building network, click on "Browse" to find it. Below, please find more detailed instructions on connecting to our servers.
NOTE: If you are running any version of Mac OS before 10.4.6, please be sure to install the latest Microsoft UAMs (User Authentication Method) before attempting to connect to College of Education servers. Mac OS X 10.4.6 and later do not require Microsoft UAMs.
1. From the Finder (click on any open space on your Macintosh desktop or click on the Finder icon in the dock to get to the Finder), select the Go menu and choose Connect to Server .

2. Enter the address for the server you are trying to access into the "Address" field at the bottom of the Connect to Server dialog box. See example below for format. (NOTE: If you are connecting to the web server and use Contribute to edit web pages, use smb://www.ed.uiuc.edu/edwebs instead of afp://www.ed.uiuc.edu/edwebs). For a list of available servers, see the College Servers and Names web page.

3. Once you attempt to connect to the appropriate server, a dialog box should appear prompting you to log in. Type in your Active Directory account and password (the same one used for Netfiles, Exchange, or for logging in to Windows computers managed by the College of Education).

4. If your login is successful, the available server folders will appear in the next window. Select the volume to which you need access and click OK.
