The University of Illinois Writing Project (UIWP) is a partnership between the University of Illinois and area schools in Champaign-Urbana, and the immediately surrounding counties. Its aim is to cultivate teacher leaders who bring expertise and enthusiasm for writing into their own classrooms and provide excellent professional development for their colleagues represents university and public school expertise in studies of literacy and the teaching of writing. A unique strength of the site is a strong commitment to fostering an understanding of web-based practices and their everyday relevance to literacy and its teaching. UIWP will host its first Summer Institute from June 9-July 3, 2008. The Summer Institute will bring together teachers from local schools to UIUC to demonstrate their own best practices and classroom successes; study writing theory and research; experience the writing process by writing and sharing their writing in small groups; learn about digital literacy and video as a rhetorical medium through hands-on training; and publish their work on-line.
