Graduate Student Petition Process
The student has the right to petition any Graduate College requirement
or rule. While there may be exceptions, a petition must
be recommended and approved first by the student's adviser, then
by the department chairperson, then the Associate Dean for Student
Academic Affairs, and finally by the Graduate College. A
petition approved at one level may be denied at another level.
The student should complete the Graduate Student Petition in consultation
with the adviser to request any exceptions to Graduate College
rules, regulations, and requirements. Both sides of the
petition form must be completed. The comment portion of
the "Comments and Recommendations" section is not optional.
The petition must be signed by the student's adviser and then forwarded to the Graduate Programs Secretary (314N Education Building, MC-708) who will obtain departmental approval. Then, the petition is forwarded to the Student Academic Affairs Office for the approval of the Associate Dean. It will then be forwarded to the Graduate College for final action. The student will be notified via e-mail of the final action within two to eight weeks.
More information about the Gradute Student Petition can be found
