Overview:

Since my students in a 3/4 classroom are studying China this semester, I wanted to incorporate my mini-unit in with China. The students had already studied the geography of China so I wanted to use literature to study the culture and way of life of the Chinese. I want my students to see that literature can be used to learn more about the way of life of people instead of solely for entertainment. I integrated other subjects in with literature such as history and art so that the students would learn in other areas as well. I used cooperative groups as well as giving the students the chance to work alone. Each child is different and therefore needs to have choices in how they want to learn. I related two of my lessons and I made a class book from the finished product!! The students are very independent learners and therefore I designed the lessons so that there wasn't a lot of direct instruction, but the students were learning from each other as well.
