Class of 57Assistant Teachers meets in Ed 42A, 10, &16 Fridays 12:30-1:30.

Collaborators: James Levin, Michael Waugh, Cathy Thurston, Karl Koenke, Matt Stuve, Evangeline Secaras, Gary DePaul, Nancy Brown-Smith, & Shwu-yi Leu

Assistant Teachers work in pairs on Macintosh PowerBooks issued by the Office of Educational Technology.ÝÝÝ 


Objectives:

To know enough about a computer so that it is a welcome electronic tool.

To know about and use word processing, spread sheets and data

base.

To know about and use Internet and WWW to locate resources, etc.

To know about and be able to obtain Shareware and Freeware.

To know about and be able to use ListServs and NewsGroups.

To communicate via e-mail with colleagues.

To use the computer in the elementary classroom.

To gain knowledge of software availability and selection.

To gain knowledge of managing a one computer classroom.

Sept. 5

Distributed Powerbooks, introduced connecting to internet from home, accessing email with PINE.Ý

Sept. 12

Helped students with hardware/software problems, revisited connecting from home, showed how to use Eudora.Ý

Revisited Eudora. Helped students with hardware/software problems.Ý 
Netscape--how to use; showed 97-98 YLP pages (requested students to find 5 websites related to elementary school teaching, critique them, and indicate how they can be used)ÝÝ 
Assignment: Due Oct. 3. Complete the survey of computers in classrooms. Assignment was sent via e-mail and is to be returned to Karl Koenke via e-mail.ÝÝ 
Provided: one disk to copy Eudora folder for use in classrooms or at home.
