xxx(self address)xxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Date xxxx(name)xxxxxxx xxx(adress)xxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Dear _____: I am applying for the first grade position that is available in the Antioch District for the 1995-1996 school year. Based on my qualifications and experience, I believe I can meet the specific needs of the students at this grade level. I learned of the vacancy through the district off.ce. ! recently finished my student teaching in a first grade classroom in Urbana, Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois in May with a B.S. in Elementary Education. I plan to move to the area in the fall and therefore I am eager to work in your school. This year I participated in a unique teaching program at the University of Illinois and I feel confident that my experiences in the Year Long Project have prepared me to accept the role of being an effective full-time teacher in District #34. This year, I have had opportunities that include extensive training in the use of computers in the classroom, working in three different placements, including a placement in a multi-leveLclassroom, and taking an active role in such crucial times of the year as the opening of school and parent-teacher conferences. In my classroom, whole language was the foundation for learning. The students learned reading and writing through everyday experiences. in the area of mathematics, I used a variety of manipulatives in the classroom to further understanding. I believe using hands-on activities is a powerful learning approach. I also taught an integrated unit on weather, combining all subjects, such as writing, science, and math, so that my students would find the unit both enjoyable and meaningful.
Even with all of the time that I have devoted to my professional development, I have still made it a point to become involved in other organizations on campus, such as Students Against Multiple Sclerosis. It was my duty to plan and direct various fund-raisers throughout the year on campus to raise money for local support groups. I am more than willing to help with or be in charge of extra-curricular activities that the school system sponsors. I believe it is essential to build a strong sense of community between students, parents, and teachers.
I have enclosed my resume and also a letter which describes the uniqueness of my participation in the Year Long Project at the U of I this past year. Please feel free to contact me if further information is needed. I look forward to hearing from you and will arrange an interview at your convenience. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Rebeca L. Kresin
