My current position with the Regional Office of Education #11 Division of School Assistance and Support is very challenging. I work with teachers and administrators in the state of Illinois with 29 districts in the counties of Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Moultrie, and Shelby. My responsibilities are the areas of School Improvement, Assessment, Gifted Education, Science, Math, Social Sciences, Language Arts, FIne Art, Health, and Physical Education. Because the school districts in our region are getting access to the internet I n am now a graduate student at the University of Illinois in Curriculum and Instruction with a technology focus. Before taking the position at the Regional Office I taught 3rd grade and then 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Science and Social Studies in Central Illinois In my spare time I am involved in three projects. One project is Prairie Flowers. This project is developing curriculum for Middle School Science with technology used as a tool. The second project is Plan It. This is a high school project that will have six modules. The first two modules, Forest and Flowing Water are now in the pilot stage. The next two modules, Prairie and Wetlands, are now being written. The last two modules will be developed next year. This project focus on Illinois and is being done in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Teachers and students involved in this project go into the field and take measurements that are forwarded to DNR for a yearly report on the environmental conditions in Illinois. The third project I am currently involved in is writing curriculum for K-4 on coal in Illinois.
