The best thing about this project: This project is for any grade level. Students have 20 minutes to create as many 2 or more letter words as they can find using the word PIONEER. They are not allowed to use proper nouns, slang, non-English words, or abbreviations. Each student has to put his/her brain to work and think quickly. I felt that my third graders enjoyed this practice and did quite well. The most words found by one student in 20 minutes was 21.
The worst thing about this project: The project organizer stated "as results come in they will be posted." There was no mention of the type of information being requested.
What I would change to improve this project (and why): This project could be improved by stating what kind of results are expected-- the highest number of words found by a student, the top 3 students, or compile a list of words the entire class found in 20 minutes working separately.
