Resources for the class

This course will help teachers learn how to use long-distance electronic networks for instruction. It is a project-oriented course, with participants involved in several telecommunication projects, connecting their own students with students elsewhere in Illinois and around the world. Initially, participants will join in ongoing network activities while learning the technical skills of telecommunication.

It is not necessary that participants have any significant experience with microcomputer-based telecommunications. However, participants will need to have some prior experience with word processing on a microcomputer. Participants will need access to an IBM or compatible computer running the Windows 95 operating system or a Macintosh running System 7 and a modem (minimum speed of 14.4 Kbaud) and a telephone line or a direct network connection to conduct the electronic network interactions which will be a substantial portion of the course.

The class will will meet in Room 10 of the Education Building at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (1310 S. 6th St., Champaign IL), with the rest of the course conducted via the network. The four face-to-face meetings will be on:

The course is a 1 unit course.
