This interdisciplinary project is designed for students in grades 3-12. Students will follow the Mississippi River's flood stages while learning about watersheds, engineering, environmental science, history and culture. Although the program coordinators are putting a call to schools along the river, the activities and lessons learned apply to any watershed in any region. Classrooms participating in the project will receive interactive on-line field reports from river managers, barge pilots, poets, musicians, historians, and lock and dam operators. Participating schools will receive a printed curriculum guide and participants can select from 3 inquiry-based projects.
