Since one of my areas of interest is nutrition, I tried to find projects related to nutrition, and would have liked to have found something that my undergraduate class could participate in. So far, no luck. However, I also have a friend who is a second grade teacher and her student teacher will be doing a unit on nutrition this spring, so I checked out the few projects related to nutrition for elementary kids. This site sponsored by Dole has a lot of other stuff in addition to the virtual classroom project, and is a very attractive and engaging nutrition ed site for children. The virtual classroom project involves twice yearly projects during which students respond to specific questions. For example, last September, students submitted suggestions (to President Clinton) for improving the inclusion of fruits and vegetables in school lunches. The next classroom period is March 18-20, 1997, but the topic is not yet posted. It's not the most interactive or exciting project, but the whole site would be a nice supplement to a health unit on nutrition.
