Project: The ExTerminator Mystery Project
Date: February 23 to April 7, 1995
Registration: February 23 to March 10
Mystery #1: March 13 to March 22
Mystery #2: March 22 to March 31
Mystery #3: April 3 to April 18
Purpose:
Each mystery was developed by my 5th grade students. They have taken their
knowledge from our unit on insects and their expertise from playing "WHERE
IN THE U.S.A. IS CARMON SANDIEGO?" These essays are all unique and
make a great way to incorporate geography and science into your curriculum.
Grade Level:
4th to 12th grades
Summary:
My 5th grade students have written 3 mystery essays about the evil ExTerminator.
ExTerminator travels around the U.S. destroying all species of insects with
which he comes in contact. Your assignment, if you decide to take it, is
to catch the evil ExTerminator by locating the city he has committed his
heinous crimes and to identify the insect he exterminated. A 10 day time
limit will be set. Answers sent after the deadline will not count. All answers
must be sent to my e-mail address. There are a number of points you can
earn for each mystery. Please give only one answer per school. Teachers
that have more than one class should decide which class to post the correct
answer. Points will be awarded for all correct answers and the school with
the most points will receive a fantastic prize!
