Student Responsibilities
Please keep these responsibilities in mind throughout the course. If any of them do not fit your style or current goals, please negotiate a different set. Consider it a general obligation to make this a good course not only for yourself but for the others.
- Keep a journal. Make entries at least once a week on concepts and issues encountered. Write it for yourself. There is no obligation to hand in the journal but you may decide at some time you would care to show Rita or Bob how your ruminations have progressed.
- Participate in class discussions and assist classmates in understanding concepts and issues.
- Read all the assigned readings and browse through other readings as you find useful.
- Submit a 3000-6000 word paper on some aspect of evaluation of education in a culture other than those dominant in economically developed countries or regions. Make sure there are ties with existing program evaluation theory. This paper can be done alone or collaboratively, but with collaboration we expect the quality of the paper to be higher. A rough draft of the paper is due April 1 and the smooth draft is due April 13.
- Make a 50 minute classroom presentation on the topic of your paper (#4) alone or collaboratively either on April 13 or 27. Prepare an outline of your presentaation for Bob and Rita and discuss it with them a week in advance.
- Design an evaluation of a World Bank educational assistance program such as described in the following papers. This design is due May 4.
7. Devote the period March 14-20 entirely to our visit to the World Bank in Wasnington.
